Formatting Your Personal Statement

While application season has just begun, it is time to start working on your personal statement....and there are a lot of great reasons for you to do so...as if you need any.  But, seriously, get started on your applications now and of course that means your personal statement as well.  Many students struggle with a few common issues on their personal statement.  First on the list is how to format their personal statement.  While it may seem like a simple concept on the surface, when most students sit down at their desk to attempt their first draft, they are stumped.  This is most likely because most of you have been conditioned that an "essay" needs to have 5 paragraphs.  Well, you are going to throw out any notion of formatting on the personal statement.  This is a creative writing effort and that means that there are no real structural requirements for your essay other than the basics (spelling, grammar, etc.).

So, plan ahead and put some time aside to start investigating the applications you will be filling out and of course start working on your admission essays as well.

Good luck!
